Client: Community Voices

The Assignment: Identify a celebrity with marquee value to help raise awareness of men’s health issues.

SRG was successful in negotiating the appearance of Judge Greg Mathis, host of the nationally syndicated Judge Mathis Show. He joined Morehouse School of Medicine Interim President and former US Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher and health and correctional experts in calling for reform to America's prison health system at the release of the American Journal of Public Health's special prison health issue. Citing his own experiences on both sides of the criminal justice system, Judge Mathis drew attention to the many aspects of the system which contribute to a cycle of poor health and recidivism.

The event was held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. As a result of a successful event Judge Mathis has joined the board of Trustees of Morehouse, will help raise funds, and to be the keynote speaker for a special lecture series.

Community Voices of the National Center for Primary Care at the Morehouse School of Medicine is a W.K. Kellogg Foundation initiative working to make health care available to all, by helping ensure the survival of safety-net providers and strengthening community support services.
